What Is A Hair Transplant?
A hair transplant means taking hair from one part of the body and moving it to another. Many individuals suffer from hair loss, and a hair transplant can help them grow hair where they need it the most! People can lose hair for a variety of reasons including genetics, medications, medical conditions, or hormonal changes. These causes vary between men and women. Men typically suffer from male pattern baldness which causes a receding hairline or baldness towards the top of the head. This type of baldness is easily treated with an FUE hair transplant. Los Angeles doctor Dr. Matt Tahsini from LA Hair Institute recommends getting a consultation to determine the reason for your hair loss. Most men suffer from male pattern baldness. You will notice that the hair at the top of the head is thinning while the hair on the lower scalp remains intact. Donor hair is typically taken from the lower scalp because it is resistant to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that causes hair loss. Testosterone is converted to DHT in the oil glands of the hair follicles. When donor hairs are harvested from these resistant areas, they will not fall out when transplanted; however, your natural hair that was not transplanted can still fall out if hormone levels remain the same. Dr. Matt Tahsini from Los Angeles Hair Institute may recommend taking medication to reduce the chance of these hairs falling out in order to decrease the need for future transplants. There are two main types of hair transplants solutions: Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Strip Surgery (FUSS or FUT). Both involve harvesting hair follicles and require recovery time; however, an FUE hair transplant has less scarring, takes less time to heal, and has less scarring. During the best FUE hair transplant at Los Angeles Hair Institute, hair follicles are removed individually and then transplanted to areas that need coverage. The hair follicles are harvested individually, and the puncture marks leave tiny scars that look like white dots. Once the hair grows back in, the scarring should not be noticeable. Small incisions are made to the scalp for the hairs to be transplanted. There may be some red crusting in the treatment area for 7 to 10 days after the procedure. During a FUT procedure, a strip of skin about six to ten inches long is taken from the lower scalp. The amount of scalp needed for the FUT procedure depends on the amount of donor hair that is needed. The scalp may be removed from ear to ear if a lot of donor hair is needed. The scalp is then stitched closed. The remaining hair may cover the area where the scalp was removed if it is long enough. Donor hairs are then harvested from the removed piece of the scalp and then transplants to the area requiring coverage. This method has more scarring that the best FUE transplant at LA Hair Institute, as it leaves a linear scar where the scalp was removed. Once the scalp has completely healed, the donor hair will fall out within two to three weeks. This is only temporary, so there is no need to worry! New growth will appear within three to six months and will be two to three inches long by nine months after the procedure. Most growth should be apparent within the first year. This donor hair will be permanent and will not fall out. You can cut and style it as desired! Many people get a hair transplant.
